#AskJim

Ahead of the Newmarket 2000 Guineas we caught up with our ambassador Jim Crowley to find out more about his ride ELARQAM and the season ahead.

Who do you think is your biggest competition in the race? #askjim

Jim - Well obviously the favourite, GUSTAV KLIMT, the horse of Charlie’s, MASAR and SAXON WARRIOR. You also can’t rule out EXPERT EYE, it’s going to be very competitive race.

How has he wintered? #askjim

Jim - He’s done really well. I rode him work at the craven and he went really nicely. It was a good trip out for him and he’s come on lots from a 2 year old to a 3 year old.

Do you think it is a positive or a negative to go straight to the Guineas without a prep run? #askjim

Jim - Positive. Over the last few years Aidan has won without a prep run and as long as they have had a course gallop which Elarqam has, I think it’s a good thing.

What would it mean to win your first British Classic, and for your boss Sheikh Hamdan? #askjim

Jim - It would mean everything. I have now been second in 3 classics so I would love to win one, especially with this horse. And to win it for Sheikh Hamdan would be incredible with this horse and his breeding, it would be a dream come true.

What characteristics does he share with Frankel? #Askjim

Jim - He actually is the spitting image of Attraction. With regards to Frankel, he's very similar in the sense that he just wants to get on with the job and is a keen front-runner like both parents.

#AskJim what's the plans  for Gabr and Eqtidaar for the season?

Jim - Eqtidaar runs on Wednesday at Ascot whilst Gabr will run in the next few weeks. We'll see how they've wintered and then decide their targets for the season.

What has been the best horse you have ridden? #AskJim

Jim - Ulysses.

which of aidan o briens horses do you think could win the derby?and what's the best day of your career in racing so far? #AskJim

Jim - I'd side with Saxon Warrior.

Best day of my career would be winning the Juddmonte International at York last year with Ulysses.

Who do you think you will ride in the Dante #AskJim

Jim - No idea!

How do you rate Indian racing and what was your experience like in India . #askjim

Jim - I really enjoyed it. I liked the atmosphere in India and they have really good horses. I would say some of their best would rival our group and listed horses here in the UK.

Can you beat Saxon in the Guineas? #Askjim

Jim - Yes and I fully expect to.

#AskJim what is your favourite course ;-)

Jim - I have two. Ascot and Goodwood. The festivals at both are class.

Is Battaash the fastest you have Ridden #AskJim

Jim - I would say he is but also the horse I rode in Dubai - Ertijaal. He was very quick as well. Hopefully Battaash will have another fantastic year.

#AskJim at Newbury you rode afaak over taqdeer, it seemed on paper form that taqdeer had around 9lbs in hand as well as a run, what factors made the decisions for the first and second string here? Do you expect afaak’s rating to exceed taqdeer’s during the season?

Jim - Afaak had finished 2nd in his last start to Addeybb who the won the Lincoln and the Sandown Mile so that form looked pretty good. Charlie Hill's is also expecting big things from him this season.
