Festive Fixtures

There is definitely a turn in the weather and we all know what that means...whether we like it or not, Christmas is coming. There are so many things to look forward to in the festive season but obviously, the most exciting of all, is the copious racing fixtures.

Fireworks Night on the 4th November, an occasion which is fun for everyone, both old and young. The first of Ascot’s Jumps season fixtures kicks off with a bang, with one of the region's largest Fireworks display. This is a fantastic opportunity to get friends and family together for what will be a great day and continues into the evening. The Ascot Plaza Lawns come to life with fairground rides and other activities for the younger generations where all proceeds go to local charities and children under 18 go free. Ascot also hosts a fantastic Christmas Racing Weekend in mid December, where you can enjoy a spot of Christmas shopping at the Country Living Christmas Shopping Fair in the Grandstand in between races. This is the best way to get in the mood for one of the most fun and social times of the year.

One festive fixture to keep your eye on is Sandown Park’s jump racing Festival in December. The second day of the Festival is the Tingle Creek Chase Day which attracts racing fans from all over. This day includes two Grade 1 races; the Henry VIII Novices’ Chase and the featured Tingle Creek Chase. The Tingle Creek features some of the best horses in training and was won last year by Willie Mullins trained Un De Sceaux. This race has been won by many Champion Chasers’ including Desert Orchid, Kauto Star, Sprinter Sacre and Sire de Grugy.

Once you have indulged on Christmas day and eaten more than your body weight in Turkey, chocolate and cheese, there is no time to lounge around as Boxing Day calls…! Kempton Park is the place to be on Boxing Day with the 32Red Winter Festival, with 12 top quality jump races over two days. This is a jump racing event you do not want to miss, with three Grade 1 races including the Christmas Hurdle, Kauto Star Novices’ Chase and the 32Red King George VI Steeple Chase. This was won last season by the magnificent Thistlecrack, trained by Colin Tizzard. Again, this race is steeped in history with the likes of Arkle, Desert Orchid and Kauto Star all having won the race at least once.

Other Boxing day meetings take place all around the country including, Market Rasen, Wincanton and Huntingdon, so there is plenty of racing action to keep you entertained over the christmas period, wherever you are. There are numerous racecourses offering other Autumn and Winter afternoon/evening racing with a festive twist. Doncaster will see the first of the jump season after a brilliant summer of flat and host a special New Year’s Race Day on the 29th December 2017.

Once we have waved goodbye to 2017 and welcomed the new year with a few glasses of bubbly, there is no need to despair, as we still have lots of fun to offer. Cheltenham New Year's Day racing is one of the most popular fixtures at this time of year. Nurse your hangover with a day out in the fresh Cotswold air and a warm cup of cocoa. For those who are entertaining young ones, there is a family fun zone which will have a special visit from Paddington Bear and live Animal Magic, where you will be able to meet an unusual collection of animals. As always Cheltenham hosts a wide selection of unique retail and trade stands for any late Christmas shoppers.

We have a plethora of racing packages available for all of you and your family. There are some great group booking deals so don’t miss out.  Take a look at our festive fixtures on our website by clicking here. We can’t wait!!
