There are few things better in life better than sitting in the sun and enjoying a glass of chilled Prosecco, but one of those things is definitely sitting in the sun enjoying a chilled Prosecco cocktail and these seem to be all the rage right now. With the ever increasing popularity of sparkling wines, UK wine drinkers are conjuring up ways to enhance their favourite sparkling tipple. Mixing your Prosecco with your favourite spirit or liqueur and some fresh fruit juice is a great way to put a smile on the faces of your party guests or to just enjoy some quiet time in the garden.
The following recipes are based upon some of the most popular cocktails prepared by mixologists everywhere for generations. The addition of sparkling Prosecco most definitely puts the cherry on the top, so to speak!
Ah, the Margarita! A classic if ever there was one and most certainly an amazing accompaniment to Mexican food whether you’re entertaining or not. The refreshing sweetness of the Prosecco nicely replaces the more traditional liqueurs used to make Margaritas, such as Cointreau, but there’s nothing stopping you adding a dash of your favourite fruit liqueur if you like things sweet.
Ingredients: Premier Estates Sparkling Prosecco, Tequila, Sea Salt, Crushed Ice, Lemon or Lime Slice
Method: Wet the rim of a Margarita glass and dip it into the sea salt so that you have a nice even covering all around the rim. Add a single measure of your favourite brand of Tequila and top up the glass with cold Prosecco leaving a little room for some crushed ice. Add the lemon or lime slice to the edge of the glass to garnish. Sit back, relax and enjoy!
Prosecco Pina Colada
If you can’t make it to the Copacabana then just close your eyes while you’re enjoying this classic in the sunshine and we’re fairly sure you’ll be magically transported there, if only in spirit. This tropical extravaganza is enhanced in every way with the addition of Prosecco from the extra sweetness to the added fizz.
Ingredients: Premier Estates Sparkling Prosecco, Pineapple Juice, Coconut Water, Coconut flakes, Lime Wedge, Crushed Ice
Method: Rub the lime wedge around the edge of the glass and dip it into the coconut flakes. Add a dash of pineapple juice and a dash of coconut water and then top up the glass with chilled Prosecco leaving a little space for some crushed ice. You could also go as far as adding the more traditional dash of white rum but we would recommend conducting a taste test first!
With the increasing popularity of craft gins in the UK, the traditional G & T has been seeing a resurgence in pubs, bars and homes all over the country. A little fizz and sweetness only serves to make a great drink sublime.
Ingredients: Premier Estates Sparkling Prosecco, Gin, Elderflower Cordial, Crushed Ice, Cucumber Slice, Lime Wedge, Mint Sprig Garnish
Method: Add a single measure of your favourite Gin brand to a wine flute and pop in a dash of elderflower cordial. Top up with Prosecco and add some crushed ice. A squeeze of lime can be added for a hint of citrus zest, then pop a slice of cucumber on the glass rim and add the mint sprig to garnish.
We know you’ve been working hard, so, go on, relax and enjoy the sun!
