Why Dubai is a question I am often asked, some people love it, some hate it and some just don’t get it, but it is somewhere you must try. I am writing this after just returning from the Dubai World Cup where I was lucky enough to be sent out to host our group and view some of the new hotels. I have been to Dubai quit a few times and it is forever changing, like any city it is full of energy.
The week of the Dubai World Cup is no exception, with something happening every minute to keep you amused, but don’t worry if you are a more of a chill by the pool type there is no better place to be. All the hotels have great pool areas and if you are not on the beach you can pay to join for the day or head to the public beach to feel the sand between your toes. If you love a party on the beach, Nikki Beach and Blue Marlin both have places here, and there is also Cove beach club for the notorious brunch, but more about that later.
For the sprinter - For those of you who like to have an action packed trip you have come to the right place, Dubai has so much to offer. It is one of the few holiday places you can go and if it rains there is so much to do still. Top sights to see have to be a trip up the Burj Khalifa, I recommend going around 4.30pm to see the sunset, it is a glorious site. You can just walk in on the day but to get the best deal and avoid the queues, I would suggest pre-booking. Next at the top of your list has to be shopping! Even if it’s just to see the malls, the Dubai Mall is famous for its incredible aquarium and the water fountain display outside in the evenings, which I must say gives even the Ballagio in Vegas a run for it’s money. I would recommend heading over in the evenings to see it and maybe sit outside for dinner in the souk just opposite. There is also the Emirates mall which has a it’s own ski slope
The other top thing I would have to reccomend doing has to be a trip to the dessert, whether you go full desert safari and dinner under the stars or head to Bab Al Shams for some lunch or dinner. The full desert safari is so much fun and even better in a big group, Bab Al Shams is a hotel and spa literally in the middle of nowhere and is so stunning you might even want to stay overnight.
For the long distance - If you are in Dubai for 5 days or more you are likely to want some R and R, the weather is normally always beautiful and even if it does rain it always stays pretty warm, the upside of being in a desert! All of our hotels have great pool areas to just chill out, if you are more of a beach person though you can head to the public beach or head to one of the fantastic beach clubs. There is Cove Beach which has an amazing fish restaurant with it and you can pay to have one of the beds for the day too. You also have Eden Beach club on the palm or Beach bar at the other end of town. For the ultimate spa experience you must head to the Address Palace hotel, it is like no other spa I have been to and you don’t have to be a hotel guest to experience it. As mentioned above Bab Al Shams also has an amazing spa and is beautiful to lie by the pool too, a place you can go for the day and just forget the world!
For the Maiden- If this is your first time in Dubai and you are looking for a party this city is the place to be. For the day party there is no better place to be than Nikki Beach, but be prepared alcohol does not come cheap in Dubai and Nikki Beach is no exception being at the top end of the scale. But fear not as alcohol is so expensive and day drinking can cost an arm and a leg there is a saving grace - Brunch! Now I am sure you have heard of Brunches before, all you can eat and drink for X amount, but Dubai really knows how to Brunch. Let’s start at the top the Nobu High Brunch is around 585 AED with food and alcoholic drinks and is pretty pricey but is known as being one of the best and most fun, they also offer an alcohol free brunch perfect for families. Next on the list is Candy Pants, this is a young fun and wild brunch, priced at 325 AED is a lot cheaper and a lot of fun. Also highly recommended for great value is the VIDA hotel, the Urban Picnic Brunch where you can rent your own cabana, is unique to others with its set up and feel for the day starting at 325 AED for an alcoholic brunch.
Now onto the nightlife, first if you are looking for a great dinner spot there is Zuma where the food is fantastic and the place is very lively so a great place to start the night! There is also Caramel for a truly delicious meal, again young and contemporary. If you are a meat lover The Meat Company is amazing and set in the beautiful Madinat you won’t find a more beautiful setting, it is like a mini Venice, without the smell! You must experience the Madinat at least once, around the restaurant there is also some great bars for a few drinks after too, I would recommend Trader Vic’s and Buddha Bar. If fish is your fancy I highly recommend Pierchic which is out on a pier opposite the Madinat.
Now onto the real nightlife, like london and most other cities it’s late dinners and even later nights, most people head to club around 12am, so a bar stop before is essential, 360 is one of the best. It’s outside and looks back on the stunning Dubai skyline, drinks are normal price for Dubai and it’s also a great place to watch the go down. Zuma has a great bar with amazing cocktails too but you better get there early as it really fills up. The clubs in Dubai are pretty spectacular and normally have someone performing or some type of show, prime example of this would be Cirque Le Soir, they put on an amazing show and if you are looking for something different this place is perfect. There is also a Mahiki located in the Jumeirah beach hotel as well as a Cavalli club. Toy Room has also got Dubai, I have only ever been to the London one but if hip hop is your thing this is the place for you. There are so many amazing clubs in Dubai you are sure to end up somewhere incredible.
If we have not sold you on Dubai still I know one thing that will, the racing! The Dubai World Cup is a real night of champions and racing greats, the performance we saw from Arrogate was unreal and something I will remember forever. The night itself is full of the turfs greats and gets you very excited for the season ahead! There is a huge fireworks display at the end of the night and this year saw SIA take to the stage, there is great packages on offer too with most hospitality options including all your food and drink.
