Duel of the Jockeys Golf Day 2018

The Monday of Royal Ascot week means one thing in the Your Golf Travel and Racing Breaks office, the annual Duel of the Jockeys Golf Day. Every year for the last three years our two companies come together at the Royal Berkshire Golf Club. The day is made up of teams of four, half play for team Frankie Dettori and the other half for team Jim Crowley.  Jim was the defending champion so it was all to play for team Frankie!

Registration starts at 9:30am; get your team hat and grab a great breakfast in the historic clubhouse, which I must say is delicious! The sound of the shotgun at 11:00am signifies the start of Duel of the Jockeys 2018! The day is comprised of 18 teams, each team starting on a separate hole. What makes the day even better than the previous Duel of the Jockeys, were this year’s hole sponsors. Sponsors this year included Whispering Angel Rose, Gaucho Steaks and array of cocktail and gin stands, Savoursmith crisps, Gin and Tonic bar, Cocktail bar, Pimms, a chipping challenge and finally a hole in one competition where you could win a brand new Mercedes GL. Unfortunately no one took the car home this year, but they did get stuck into the drinks!

So who comes to the day? Well, the day is open to everyone and is a real who’s who of racing, this year was one of our best! We saw Love Islands Chris Hughes, James Doyle, A P McCoy, Rishi Persad, John Francombe, Mick Fitzgerald, Pat Cosgrave, Steve Donohoe, Richard Hughes and Scott Hazleton. Oh, and of course Jim and Frankie. So, you will be rubbing shoulders with the best in business. Not only that but there is plenty of time to meet everyone before and after the golf.

Following the golf, the BBQ banquet is served. There’s also a prize giving for the top player and winning team! This year, once again, saw Jim’s team claim victory and take home the trophy! After, there is then an exclusive preview evening with Jim, Frankie, Rishi and Scott. Jim and Frankie give their thoughts on their rides and Scott brings a great insight on the American horses. Hopefully, anyone who was listening would have done well with Frankie having three winners on the first day alone.

All in all, the day summarises what is great with both racing and golf. A memorable day which was great to see all the racing personalities getting a chance to relax and enjoy a round of golf ahead of a busy week!

Well Done Team Jim!
