July Festival - Newmarket

When is it?

The July Festival at Newmarket takes place over the course of 3 days, beginning on Thursday (12th July) and ending on the Saturday (14th July).

What's on each day?

Day 1 - Ladies Day

Ladies Day at the Festival is the busiest day of the 3 day festival, and of course there is a big emphasis on fashion. Ladies on the day battle it out to win the ‘Best Dressed Lady Competition’ with the winner taking home an endless list of prizes including a spa break for two, three nights accommodation at the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray and a £1000 personal styling session. So this is definitely a day not to miss!

In terms of the racing, the standout races of the day are The Kingdom of Bahrain Trophy and the Group 2 Princess of Wales’s Stakes. After the racing comes to an end, the entertainment doesn't stop there! There is always live music on Ladies Day and this year, Simon Webbe (from Blue) will be DJ’ing and all racegoers are invited (once again free of charge!).

Day 2 - Feel Good Festival

It’s in the name, Feel Good Friday is all about having fun! This year Newmarket have invited Gok Wan who will be co-hosting for some of the day and will also be attending The Style Awards which are held on the day.

After the racing, Heart FM will be providing the entertainment and will be continuing the feel good theme with feel good music. What better way to start the weekend than dancing the Friday night away?

Day 3 - Darley July Cup

The Darley July Cup is arguably one of the biggest sprint races of the year and always attracts the biggest names in the racing world. Last year’s Group 1 race was won by HARRY’S ANGEL who picked up more than half of the huge £500,000 purse. The winner of this race is widely regarded as the best sprinter in Europe so it is hotly contested and always draws a huge crowd.

This is also the best day to bring your family along as kids go FREE, no matter what enclosure you have booked!

How to get there?

Newmarket’s organisers have made the racecourse extremely accessible for all racegoers, whether you plan to travel locally or even if your coming from afar. With Newmarket Railway Station less than two miles from the racecourse, its is by far the most popular mode of transport for racegoers.

If you get to the racecourse with plenty of time to spare then you will have the option to walk, alternatively it only takes 5 minutes in a taxi. However, I would personally recommend using the reliable shuttle bus which takes racegoers from the station, directly to the racecourse. The service usually begins two hours before the first race starts and operates for a further two hours after the final race finishes. Guess what! - its FREE too. If you decide to drive yourself, the racecourse also offer vast amounts of free car parking, however this is limited so it is advised to arrive early to avoid disappointment.
