St Leger Festival - Day 1 Preview

St Leger Opening Day

The St Leger Festival is a four day event which plays host to the oldest Classic race in the UK, The St Leger. There is great racing held over all 4 days and this year is no different. The first day plays host to only one listed race, however the other races on the card look to be competitive and could prove a stepping stone for horses looking to make an impression next season.

British Stallion Studs EBF Conditions Stakes 1:50

The first race of the day on Wednesday is contested by 2 year olds. My bet in this race is ALFIE SOLOMONS as he came second at both Goodwood and York in Class two contests. Another one to watch will be Khaadem who after his impressive win last time out at Newmarket is going off favourite at low odds.

Training And Development Services Scarbrough Stakes (Listed Race) 3:00

This race is the only listed race on the card today and EL ASTRONAUTE is my pick. Having won last time out in a huge race at York and looking better than ever at 11/4 I see this as value.

EBF Breeders' Series Fillies' Handicap 4:05

This is an open contest and should prove an exciting race with CRYSTAL HOPE stepping up in trip and down in contest I see this going to her, and at 3/1 she would be my bet. Pretty Jewel is a course and distance winner and at 12/1 she could be worth an E/W bet.

William Hill Leading Racecourse Bookmaker Conditions Stakes 4:40

This race is a small field and has 3 of the 4 runners at odds of 3/1 or lower. Euginio is a previous course winner having won at the meeting last year but I would side with AFAAK.
