The Dante Festival

York Racecourse is without doubt one of the best in the country. When Ascot underwent major redevelopments in 2005, York was chosen to host Royal Ascot showing what a brilliant course it is. Yorkshiremen are amongst the friendliest people about and the food and drink on course are offered at very affordable prices.

The Dante Festival is special for two very important reasons, you have the best Derby and Oaks trial. The festival is on the 17th, 18th and 19th May and the weather is normally very pleasant and being mid-week the course is a little quieter so you can really enjoy all the course has to offer, with a chance to also see some stars.

The roll of honour over these three days in the past is endless to name a few, previous winners include- SO MI DAR, THE FUGE, GOLDEN HORN and THE GREY GATSBY. All have gone on to have memorable careers. All the races are of significance, most trainers like to send their best 2 year olds here and it’s a great guide for what you will see at Ascot but the three big races we are going to talk about are the Musidora, The Dante and The Yorkshire Cup.

The Musidora- This is one of the most sought after Epsom Oaks trials of the year and trainers will bring their horses here for it, if they are not here but they have a horse for it they will also be watching this race closely to see their competition.

The Dante- Again a hugely sought after Epsom Derby trial, GOLDEN HORN, AUTHORIZED and MOTIVATOR have all won the Dante and then gone on to win the Derby. The Derby is every trainer, jockey and owners dream to win, so how their horse does here will give them a better idea of how they may do in that races itself, and as mentioned before the competition it will be facing.

The Yorkshire Cup- This is a race for the older horses and is the first big stayers race of the year, racing greats like RED CADEAUX have won this race.

As you can see there is a lot happening over the three days and with so much going on you would be crazy to miss out.
