Your Royal Ascot 2017 Tips Guide

Royal Ascot 2017 is almost upon us and with a glorious weather forecast for the week ahead, we know that we'll need to be looking for fast ground horses at flat racing's showpiece event.

OLBG.com has a community of expert tipsters at their fingertips and one of their horse racing experts, 'Nors', has some pointers for making this a profitable week.

The first bit of advice Nors offers is to concentrate on the Group races and to give most of the handicaps a miss. Some good handicap bets can be found but they are ridiculously competitive and factors such as the draw can have a major influence in the outcome. The group races tend to be 'fairer' events where the winners are much easier to pick.

Day One of Royal Ascot arguably offers the highest quality racing with 3 Group 1s and a Group 2 getting the action underway. The opening race is the Queen Anne Stakes which sees the top milers clash and this can be one of the best betting races of the meeting. Ribchester is the odds on favourite and deserves to be favourite after his easy success in last month's Lockinge Stakes but this is a deeper race and crucially he won't be getting his ground - he's never won on good to firm. If you are betting odds on you generally want everything in your favour.

So who do we oppose him with? Nors likes current 8/1 third favourite Mutakayyef as a great each way play in the race. The horse has finished in the first 3 in 14 of his 15 starts, only failing to make the frame on his latest start in Dubai on ground that was much softer than ideal. His only two runs at this course have yielded a win and a 2nd place and he's unbeaten over this trip on good to firm ground.

He looks by far the best bet on Tuesday with the Kings Stand Stakes looking too open to get involved in and the St James' Palace Stakes looking a penalty kick for hot favourite, Churchill. In that race, OLBG expert 'tbuckley' has pointed out in his blog that 5 of the last 8 winners were odds on so it's no surprise he'll be many punters' banker of the week.

Wednesday's best bet once again comes on the mile course, this time in the Group 2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes. Current 9/4 favourite Laugh Aloud looks unopposable currently with no horse yet managing to get within 2.5 lengths of her on fast ground. She's progressing into a top class filly and can win at the highest level this year.

Thursday's feature is the Ascot Gold Cup and last year's impressive winner Order Of St George is a hot favourite at around even money. OLBG tipster 'Micko70' is a stats expert and, of the 6 key criteria he examines for this race, the favourite passes all with flying colours whilst it's also worth noting he runs for Aidan O'Brien, a trainer who has won this race 7 times in the last 11 years.

Friday and Saturday offer very different cards. Friday's racing will feature two of the hottest favourites of the week, Carravagio and Winter whilst Saturday's racing is more for those looking for big priced selections with several big field cavalry charges coming up.
