Royal Ascot Tuesday Review

What a fantastic way to kick off the Royal meeting, with the glorious sunshine, some big favourite winners and some surprise outsiders. Although it wasn’t all smiles, Frankie Dettori had to miss the Royal meeting due to injury and the morning had to start with a frenzy of jockey changes to cover his rides. We started our day with a picnic under the trees, much more relaxed!

The queen arrived wearing green with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in tow, and Royal Ascot was official! The first race saw the mighty RIBCHESTER take the lead, giving Goldolphin the start I am sure they all wanted for the meeting. The next race was full of much more drama, the winner was RAJASINGHE which brought owner Phil Cunningham his first Royal Ascot winner, a special moment for anyone, the second was a 33/1 outsider HEADWAY for William Haggas who ran a blinding race and paid a pretty price for a nice each way bet.

The Kings Stand saw the mighty LADY AURELIA win in magnificent style, taking her Royal Ascot record to 2/2. She won by three lengths, which has only been done three times in a 5f sprint, two of those three were her! She is a machine and amazing to see. Anyone who watched that race will be able to see they saw history made. The St James Palace may have been where your day went really wrong! I think accumulators all over where dead in the water after this! CHURCHILL did everything to look like he was going to win only to come 4th a shocking result, in saying that BARNEY ROY is a great horse and ran incredibly. The last race of the day was a handicap which saw some of the younger trainers get to take their chances at getting a Royal Ascot winner in the bag, favourite THOMAS HOBSON won in great style for Willie Mullins and second was ENDLESS ACRES for Charlie Fellows which was great for him and the team!

The course was looking spectacular yesterday and Ascot have once again outdone themselves with on course facilities, the heat was too much for some yesterday but Ascot were well prepared giving away fans, suncream in the ladies loo’s and plenty of shade with trees and brollys.

I can only imagine the week will bring more excitement and drama, and we can’t wait!
