Hong Kong International Races

The Longines Hong Kong Cup will be held on 10th December 2017, at Sha Tin racecourse. There are plenty of races to enjoy including the Hong Kong Cup, Hong Kong Mile and The Hong Kong Sprint, all classed as Group 1. This is the highlight of turf racing in Hong Kong and has a total purse of HK$83million making it the richest race in Hong Kong. The feature race of the day has a total prize money of HK$25million. The Hong Kong Cup is run over 2000m and is the premier end-of-year championship for the world’s top middle-distance horses. Last year Ryan Moore rode a winner for trainer Noriyuki Hori, Maurice, after a slow start from the stalls. Other previous winners includes California Memory who won the race consecutively in 2011 and 2012 with Matthew Chadwick and our very own ambassador Frankie Dettori, took the victory in 2003 on board Falbrav.

The race was originally limited to horses trained in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore but eventually opened up to other countries and Europe in 1990. Sha Tin racecourse is one of two racecourses in Hong Kong, and will take approximately 40-45 minutes from central which is easy enough as there are several transport links from the centre of the city so getting around and exploring is super easy. Take a trip to Lantau Island where you can visit the giant Buddha via cable car plus a Tai O boat ride. Get a taste for chinese cuisine by taking a food tour through central and Sheung Wan districts or, if you fancy more of a fine dining, avant-garde experience, Felix in the Peninsula hotel is the one to try.  A tram tour is also on the list of things to do and will transport you to a fantastic viewing point at the Victoria Peak which, allows for you to see the delights of the city during the day or at night.

Packages with Racing Breaks start from £1,995 per person, where you will stay 4 nights at the deluxe Grand Hyatt hotel with breakfast included. This package gives you hospitality tickets to the thrilling racing at Sha Tin racecourse on Sunday, return flights and airport transfers.

To fill your week with even more racing delights, there is the opportunity to extend your stay and attend Hong Kong’s other racecourse, Happy Valley, for their race meeting on Wednesday 5th December. Our 6 night gold racing package includes hospitality to racing at Happy Valley on the Wednesday followed by a breakfast with the Stars on Thursday at Sha Tin racecourse and hospitality to racing at Sha Tin on the Sunday.
