The York Dante Festival, one of the best weeks in racing and often overlooked. The prize money over the three day festival tots up to over £8.8million, with no race being worth under £20,000. It’s not just the racing that’s had a facelift but also the new Premier Racing Lounge plus ongoing improvements across the course making York the place to be this summer.
There are a few reasons why you should head up or tune in this week, starting with the racing...Do the names TOO DARN HOT, JAPAN, LAH TI DAR and STRADIVARIUS mean anything to you? Of course they do! They are all going to be at York over the next three days. A truly star studded event which will see exactly where these horses will stand for the rest of the season.
As previously mentioned the course has undergone some improvements, aside from these, York is one of the best courses as a spectator. This can be seen on their site with their new interactive Course Guide, which shows every nook and cranny of this fantastic course.
Just to break down the course for you here is our very own Racing Breaks Guide to York Racecourse.
Where to Eat and Drink
There are a fantastic number of bars around the racecourse but here are our top 3 that you must pay a visit to:
First has to be the Moet Pavillion Terrace; This overlooks the Parade Ring and has a good view of the course itself. You can easily find a table here in the morning and not have to move all day! The ITV Racing team were here on Wednesday morning, and it looked glorious in the sunshine, they looked very comfortable!
Next is the Veuve Clicquot Champagne Lawn, positioned next to the old weighing room you are a stone's throw from food stands, the Parade Ring and the track! Next to this you have the Princess Mary Seafood bar with tables inside and outside to enjoy the lovely spring sunshine.
Sticking with food, next door to the Champagne Lawn and located in the old Weighing Room building there is a brand new Picnic Collection. If you love the idea of a picnic but don’t fancy the work of putting it all together, then this is just the thing for you! You can pre order or get choose your food on the day.
If you would rather just grab a quick bite between races there is plenty of choice from a Grill Buffet, Fish and Chips and much more.
If you are not local to York then there is no better place to make a few days out. The city its stunning and has so much to offer and do, there is plenty of hotels in the city or literally on the course.
For the Ebor Festival this year we have packages for the The Grand hotel in york from £169pp or an amazing offer of the York Marriot which is on the track for £162pp, and you will just need to roll out of bed and you are on the course. No need to worry about taxis and who’s turn it is to drive, just try not to drink to much and your legs will take you home!
