The opening race on Thursday 3rd August marks the 7th annual Magnolia Cup, presented by Swarovski, at the world-famous Goodwood Racecourse. Twelve amateur female jockeys working within a variety of industries, such as sport, business and journalism, will go head to head in a highly anticipated straight flat race over 5 furlongs.

In exchange for putting their bodies through the strain of competing, they look to galvanise the public into giving generously to a worthy children’s mental health charity: Place2Be. Since 2000, the Magnolia Cup has raised over £1 million, and will endeavour to raise as much as possible on the day.

Among this year’s competing jockeys, Sarah Ayton, is the stand-out rider. She won Gold in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics for Yngling (Sailing). Sarah, despite having never ridden until December last year, has not shied away from the challenge and is raring to go!

Not only should this day be marked in the calendar for its exhilarating race, but, fashion is also brought to Goodwood once again this year. Designers from around the country, such as Amanda Wakeley, have designed bespoke silks for each of the brave riders. Therefore, this race offers more than the average race, and gives families and friends all something that they can get involved in to truly have a great day out. The Magnolia Cup is not one to miss.

The other 11 fearless riders are Emily Baxendale, Shadi Halliwell, Dido Harding, Izzy Taylor, Victoria Gray, Alby Bailey, Camilla Swift, Charlotte Hogg, Georgie Lane-Godfrey, Aly Vance and Clare Salmon.
